Reconciliation

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Southwark Grounds is being built. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connection to Country.

Before European settlement, the Adelaide region was known as Tarndanyangga, Red Kangaroo Dreaming Place, a central site within Kaurna Country which stretches from Crystal Brook in the north to Cape Jervis in the south and from the Mount Lofty Ranges to Gulf St Vincent.

The Southwark Grounds site sits on the banks of Karrawirra Parri / River Torrens, or Red Gum River Forest, a place of deep cultural and ecological significance. For thousands of years, Kaurna people lived, hunted and gathered along this river, guided by its songlines.

As part of the development process, Renewal SA has undertaken consultation with the Kaurna community and received development authorisation under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1988 (SA).

We are committed to ongoing engagement with Kaurna people throughout the life of the project.

Renewal SA's Commitment to Reconciliation

As South Australia’s property development agency, Renewal SA recognises that our work is inextricably tied to land that has been cared for by First Nations peoples for tens of thousands of years.

Our vision for reconciliation is one where Culture and Country are interwoven with property and place, where shared history connects us and pride in that history shapes the future.

We joined Reconciliation Australia’s RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) program in 2019, completing a Reflect RAP and currently developing our second Innovate RAP, continuing our journey toward meaningful, lasting reconciliation.

We are committed to working with First Nations peoples to bring the best of Culture and Country to life through every project we deliver, including Southwark Grounds.
